Simon Williams

Simon has been interested in the natural world, horticulture and orchids species from a young age. This led him to train as a Natural History Illustrator at The Bournemouth Arts Institute on a National Diploma course. Simon went on to complete a further two years study on a Higher National Diploma course. On qualifying, he focused more on botanical artwork to exhibit with The Society of Botanical Artists (SBA) and The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS).

Illustration work has been used within advertising at the RHS gardens, Wisley, in Surrey. Other artwork has been published in a step - by - step guide on using gouache in the book .The Art of Botanical Painting. in association with the SBA. Work comes from freelancing for publishers, studio's and agencies Simon is a member of the SBA and he has been awarded two Certificates of Botanical Merit in recent years for illustrations of Orchids using gouache.Work has been exhibited at an RHS London Flower Show, where on his first exhibition in 2002, he was awarded an RHS Silver-Gilt Medal.

Over the years Simon has built up a large collection of reference material, plants and quirky objects of natural history along with good contacts for obtaining further reference. In December 2006 Simon travelled to Borneo to study rainforests and in particular tropical pitcher plants.While there he collected photographic and sketch book reference material for card designs and future projects.
