Helen Hanson has always been interested in creating a “window on the wild”. As a child she loved the countryside and its flowers, spending much of her spare time painting and drawing. She spent many years as a professional printmaker, exhibiting her evocative landscape etchings . A member of Greenwich Printmakers and a founder member of South Bank Printmakers Helen is also a member of the Society of Botanical Artists and a winner of the President’s Award for her printmaking.  Her contemporary landscape etchings use pattern, texture and mood to give a sense of place and regional plantlife.
A chance mixing of ink with coloured pencil led her into a new way of working which she has now firmly established as her own. This marked a happy return to landscape and new enthusiasm. Her work integrates the two media, weaving the processes together so that the drama of the ink is counterbalanced by the subtlety of coloured pencil.
