Sue Vize SBA

Having always appreciated the beauty of the garden and countryside, Nottingham based artist Sue Vize SBA finds her inspiration in the most simple of shapes found in our natural surroundings.  Within the traditions of botanical illustration, Sue draws from life using graphite pencil or coloured pencil, occasionally painting in watercolour, capturing onto paper the very essence of the plant, recording every leaf fold and tiny detail.

Her work is held in many private collections both in England and worldwide, including Nottingham University Plant Sciences Division and the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation in Pennsylvania, USA.  She exhibits annually at the Society of Botanical Artists exhibition at Westminster Central Hall in London, and in 2010 her work was also included in the 13th International exhibition at the Hunt Institute, Pittsburgh, USA, and at The Cumberland Lodge in Windsor Great Park.  Her illustrations have been published in a number of books including ‘Botanical Portraits with Coloured Pencils’ by Ann Swan and ‘The Anthology of Wildlife Poetry’ for the RSPB, and have also been selected by a major greetings card manufacturer for a new range of greetings cards. In addition to running her own popular workshops Sue is a demonstrator for Derwent Pencils in Keswick, Cumbria, and a tutor for Field Breaks, one of the leading providers of residential art holidays in the UK.

As a tutor Sue likes to teach both beginners and those with some experience in botanical art to explore their full potential and to develop their own individual style.  Sue will be on hand to give demonstrations and one-to-one tuition throughout the course of a workshop giving guidance on techniques and on the application of the chosen medium.

Sue’s memberships include:

The Society of Botanical Artists

The American Society of Botanical Artists

The UK Coloured Pencil Society

The Florilegium Society in Sheffield, whose aim is to illustrate the plants of Sheffield Botanical Gardens.
